ICE UPDATE

We now have 4 inches of measured ice.
Our criteria is 5 inches of ice and 32 degrees or less daytime temperatures.

We have unseasonable warm weather coming this Tues. but the long term weather
outlook seams to be normal or slightly below normal temperatures.
We are close to getting started.--- be patient ---
We should have very good fishing soon.

Ice making has stalled because of mild weather.
If we don't get snow on the ice and we get more winter temperatures, we will be getting started within 7 days.

Big Green Lake is just iced over. There is one more day of cold weather, but warmer weather is in the forecast.---- We will monitor the ice conditions daily and will let you know of any changes as they develop. Ice is not safe yet.
On the bay ice there were shanties there as of today.

We started another fishing season. Lake trout are biting and running a nice size , 2 to 6 lbs.

These fish were caught on May 8th.

An occasional cisco and white bass are also showing up.

May is a great time to fish, less boat traffic and we offer 20% off in May.

New this year:

- Our location is now still in the bay , but now by the bridge on South Lawson Dr.

- There is now a one day fishing license.

Resident--$8.00

Nonresident--$10.00

Plus a $10:00 Inland trout stamp

For residents fishing only lake trout --

there is a 2 day license that includes the trout stamp. $14.00

As of today Jan. 7 2010 the eastern 1/3 of Big Green Lake is ice covered.
The ice is thin and now has a covering of snow.
I will continue to monitor the ice conditions and when they improve, I will report it on this blog.

There is some ice on the shallow bays. The main lake is still open.

The Lake Trout fishing has been wonderful. We are still catching limits of good size lake trout averaging 2 to 6 lbs. We are also getting a few Brown Trout. Its a great way to enjoy the summer.

We are fishing the west end of Big Green Lake for Lake Trout.

Our location is great.

On some days, the fish are biting. If you are interested in this type of fishing, now is a good time to try.

Our ice shanties are warm, dry and roomy.

We got our pontoon boat in the water with a fresh start to the summer fishing.

The lake trout are biting.

It was a cool day on May 7th '08 and these folks are happy with their limit.

These fish all averaged over 20 inches long.

We now have 1 foot of ice with 1 foot of snow. For us, traveling with ice conditions like this is no problem.
Lake Trout fishing is good. Not every shanty every day caught fish, but today they did.
Some were keepers and some were undersized.
This Saturday one of our customers caught an 8 pound Lake Trout.

-No depth restriction on minnows this year on Big Green Lake . This is the first time
since 1972 that we can use minnows to fish deep water trout .

-We have ice on the bay in town and beyers cove.
---This is allowing for some excellent catches of blue gills and small perch.

-The main lake is ready to freeze, the water is cold. We just need a blast of cold weather.

MID SUMMER FISHING ON BIG GREEN LAKE

Surface water temperature is 74 degrees

LAKE TROUT continues to be excellent.

60 to 140 ft. water, using a flasher and a minnow close to bottom.

The volume of warm water is attracting BROWN TROUT and WHITE BASS action

over deep water, using a flasher and a spinner, 20 to 30 ft. down.

Lake Trout fishing is excellent. We are catching on average 2 lake trout per hour.

Cisco fishing is excellent also.

Memorial Day Weekend

Lake trout fishing is excellent. Some limit catches.....
110 feet with a flasher and a minnow.

Cisco action is fantastic.
They bite in the top 25ft, over deep water.
Flasher and spinner works best.
The cisco run like this, .only lasts a couple of weeks.

*Lake Trout fishing is good. Most fish are being caught in 90-110 feet of water.
A flasher with a minnow behind it, trolling near bottom works
the best.

*Cisco are also starting to bite in the top 25 feet of water over deep water.
Use a dipsy diver with a flasher and a spinner behind .

Lots of bass fishermen near shore on Sat. May 19th.
How well they did, I didn't hear .

This week on Big Green Lake:

Water temperature in the mid 50's

*Lake Trout fishing at this time is excellent. Limit catches can be had.
90 to 130 feet using flasher and a minnow or sutton spoons

*Blue Gills are coming to shore.
Can be found under piers on the east end

*Fishing by the Inlet bridge on County A is a good spot for a mixed bag.
